Second Chance for Bobbi Brown Downtown Beauty Collection

It was one of those mornings this morning, when I woke up half an hour too late. So instead of applying make-up at home, I had to grab a bag with make-up in it and put my face on in the car. As I drove out for my 18-mile trek from the Eastside of Los Angeles to Hollywood, I wondered why putting on make-up while driving has not become illegal. I am grateful for this!

I  followed the little booklet that came with the collection and started with my eyes. I applied the lightest color from the lashline to the brow, followed by the shimmery lilac along my eyelids. Note: I had to remove my glasses to do this. Next, it was time to add the gel liner. I didn't know how successful I would be using the gel liner while driving when I'd made a mess applying it last time, while standing rather still in my bathroom. So I pulled on my "what the heck attitude" and proceeded to hold down one lid with one hand while the other hand  held the applicator as I guided it from the outer lashline to the inner end of one eye. Look, ma, no hands! My thigh held the steering wheel as straight as it could while doing this. Walah! I did it! Moved on to the next eye with equal success. Well, well, well! What have we got here?

Then I pulled out my retractable brush and applied some of the plum-sheen blush and finally, put on lip balm before applying the lip color.

According to Bobbi Brown, the inspiration for The Downtown Beauty Collection was women from Downtown NY who are on the go. Apparently, application works best on the go as well. I am still rather disappointed with the lip colors' consistency. In the meantime, however, I shall continue to use this collection and see if it will grow on me. I have until the end of June to return it otherwise. Some things deserve a second chance, eh?

Bobbi Brown Downtown Beauty Collection Disappoints

I got the Bobbi Brown Downtown Beauty Collection purchased from QVC at the beginning of the month and was so excited to try it. It was a complete set of eye shadow, lip color, lip gloss, blush and gel liner. And well, I am sadly disappointed.

The first let down was the lip color. They just didn't moisten or glide on my lips. The lip color only satisfied me when topped with the gloss. The gloss by itself also didn't wow me at all.

Several days into using the collection, I am still trying to get a handle on the eye gel. I know this is Bobbi's best product but it's just not working for me. Applying it is not as easy as I thought. I get better results using Urban Decay 24/7. I also noticed that the gel liner tends to transfer to my upper lid. (I don't have deep set eyes.)

The eye shadow colors are nice and universal enough in my opinion as is the blush but after having to wash my make-up off this morning because of the mess I made with the liner, I switched back to Benefit's Sugarbomb and was totally happy with the result. That one box can be used on my eyes and cheeks and the result would be approved by Bobbi, I think. (This reminds me of her Shimmerbrick.) To line my eyes, I took out my Uraban Decay 27/4 Crash, put mascara on my eye lashes and put on Benefit Liar Lips lipstick and was set to face the day with a little sparkle and glow.
